東端から新しい黒点が現れています。

The sunspot number is about to increase. One or more sunspots is hiding just behind the sun's southeastern limb. Their magnetic canopies, filled with hot glowing plasma, are already visible in this Jan. 17th image from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory:

The sun's rotation will turn the active region toward Earth in the next 24 to 48 hours. We will soon see what lies below the hot plasma--almost surely a set of dark cores. Stay tuned.
